Computer aided design software developed by Calit2 research associate Lelin ZHANG. The objective of the so-called 'CAVECAD' software is to provide architect designers with pure immersive 3D experience in virtual reality environment of StarCAVE. Designers were enabled to build up world-scale models from scratch up on floorplans in an intuitive way free of hanging menus and buttons that intensively used in traditional CAD software, texturing building blocks and experiencing virtual walk throughs at all levels of designing phases, with geometry editting tools similar to Google SketchUp http://sketchup.google.com/ and day lighting support of actual temporal and geographical inputs. In collaborations with Integrated Systems Group http://isn.ucsd.edu/ lead by Professor Gert Cauwenberghs from Department of BioEngineering UCSD, the software is also in testing phase of bringing in electrooculography (EOG) inputs in addition to traditional ultrared based control systems. This project has been funded by HMC Architects Inc http://hmcarchitects.com/ since May 2009 and is being developed in version 2.0.
