VR Content Presentation
Each student has to give a slide presentation on a VR app for smartphones that runs in a VR viewer in 3D with head tracking.
There are two components to the presentation:
1) Scheduling: You need to enter your name into the wiki page on TritonEd, for the date you want to do your presentation on by Monday, April 9th, 11:59pm. You can add or change title and URL at any time after this deadline. You can also change the date later on, as long as time slots are available. There are 4 time slots for each listed date. (1 point)
2) Presentation: On the day of your presentation you need to bring a laptop with your slides and an HDMI output port, or email the URL for the slides to the instructor. Your slides need to include a video that you created yourself and which shows the app running in VR mode. The video needs to be about 1 minute long, and you should either talk over it while you record it or talk over it while you show it in class.
You are allowed to bring a notes sheet and use it during the presentation.
If you don't have a phone to run the VR app on, please contact the instructor.
Merge VR viewers can be borrowed at no charge from the Media Teaching Lab for the duration of the quarter.
Grading
Your presentation counts 5% of your grade for the class.
The score of your presentation consists of the following components:
- Timely scheduling of presentation date on wiki: 1 point
- Slide presentation: 1 point
- Self-made screen-recorded video of a walk-through of the app: 2 points
- Presenter's ability to answer questions about the app after the presentation (Q&A): 1 point
Suggestions For Things to Discuss
VR App:
- What does the app do?
- Why did you choose it?
- What platforms does it run on?
- What do you like about the app?
- What don't you like about the app?
- What could the programmer have done better?
Helpful Tips
- App needs to be able to run in Google Cardboard mode or similar, i.e., render separately for each eye in 3D, so that it can be viewed with a VR viewer. Apps that only run in full screen hand-held mode DO NOT qualify.
- App needs to support head tracking so that the viewer can see the scene around them by turning their head.
- You can find apps in the Google Play Store or Apple's App Store by searching for keywords such as VR, AR, virtual reality, augmented reality, Google Cardboard, etc.
