We don't have an official printer for our group. However, Greg Hidley, whose desk is across from Philip's desk, thankfully offered us to use his printer, the big color Laserjet 3800dtn next to his desk, for occasional use. Also, please don't run big jobs on it like printing out big manuals etc. Printing an occasional publication or two of 10-20 pages is okay. Also, if you don't need color, please print in grayscale. This printer can be accessed through its IP address which is posted on it. Please do not use this printer for personal print jobs.

Printer Installation in Linux

As superuser:

  • Open menu "System -> Administration -> Printing"
  • In "Printer Configuration" window: click "New"
  • In "New Printer" window:
    • Under "Select Device", in "Network Printer section" click "Find Network Printer"
    • Enter printer's IP address in box on right under "Network Printer"
    • Click "Find"
    • Click "Forward"
    • Under "Choose Driver" select "Select printer from database"
    • Under "Makes" select "HP"
    • Click "Forward"
    • Under "Models" select "Color LaserJet 3800", under "Drivers" leave the default
    • In "Installable Options" window: for "Tray 3" select "Installed", check "Duplex Unit"
    • Click "Forward"
    • Under "Describe Printer" leave defaults and click "Apply"
