Video Presentation

Each student must give a 3-5 minute presentation on a current (from 2018 or 2019) video that describes an interesting 3D user interface concept (software or hardware). The video must be available at a URL on-line (e.g., Youtube or Vimeo).

Important due date: You need to select a video and a date for your presentation by Sunday, January 20th, 23:59pm.

Video title and URL need to be entered into the wiki page on TritonEd, for the date on which you want to do your presentation.

You don't need to prepare slides or bring a computer. The instructor will play each video from his laptop, without audio. You need to talk over the video. It may be helpful to bring notes to use during the presentation. While the video plays you can request jumps to different parts of the video, or to pause the video. When the video ends, the instructor can start it over for you.

Grading

Your presentation counts 5% towards your grade.

Each of the following things gets graded for satisfactory (1 point) or unsatisfactory (0 points), for a maximum of 5 points.

  • The timely scheduling of your presentation on the TritonEd wiki page.
  • Your level of preparation for the presentation.
  • Your presentation itself.
  • Timing: the presentation fits within the allotted time frame of 5 minutes max.
  • Q&A: Your ability to answer simple questions about the video and/or the work it presents.

Helpful Questions to Ask Yourself

These may help you prepare for your presentation, but not all may be relevant for your video.

  • Why did you choose this particular video?
  • Who created the video? Is it a company or a research institute?
  • What is the video about? What problem did the authors of the video try to solve?
  • Why should we care about this topic? What impact does the presented work have?

How to Find a Video

Youtube has an excellent search function, which you can use to search for the following terms to get started.

  • 3D UI and related conferences such as: IEEE VR, IEEE 3DUI, ACM SIGCHI, ACM VRST, ACM SIGGRAPH, ACM SIGGRAPH ASIA, CES
  • Kickstarter projects
  • Engadget articles
  • Products presented at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES)
  • VR games and other applications in the Oculus or Steam stores
  • Anything else Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality related
  • Leap Motion has a great showcase site
