You don't need to prepare slides or bring a computer (but you can). For the app, the instructor will open its page in the app store. The instructor will play your video from his laptop, with the audio muted. You need to talk over the video explaining what is shown, and how the video was created. Both app and video need to run on your phone in the MergeVR viewer, or a different one you provide (eg, Gear VR, Daydream). You need to be ready to show a demo in class.
+
2) Presentation: On the day of your presentation you need to bring a laptop with your slides and an HDMI output port, or email the URL for the slides to the instructor. Your slides need to include a video that you created yourself and which shows the app running in VR mode. The video needs to be about 1 minute long, and you should either talk over it while you record it or talk over it while you show it in class.

It may be helpful to bring a notes sheet to use during the presentation. While the video plays you can request jumps to specific times in the video, or to pause the video. When the video ends, the instructor can start it over for you.

You are allowed to bring a notes sheet and use it during the presentation.

If you don't have a phone to run app and video on and you can't borrow one, please contact the instructor.

VR Content Presentation

Each student has to give a slide presentation on a VR app for smartphones that runs in a VR viewer in 3D with head tracking.

There are two components to the presentation:

1) Scheduling: You need to enter your name into the wiki page on TritonEd, for the date you want to do your presentation on by Monday, April 9th, 11:59pm. You can add or change title and URL at any time after this deadline. You can also change the date later on, as long as time slots are available. There are 4 time slots for each listed date. (1 point)

You are allowed to bring a notes sheet and use it during the presentation.

If you don't have a phone to run the VR app on, please contact the instructor.

Merge VR viewers can be borrowed at no charge from the Media Teaching Lab for the duration of the quarter. Check your email inbox, you should have received an email from medialab@ucsd.edu detailing the borrowing process.

Grading

Your presentation counts 5% of your grade for the class.

The score of your presentation consists of the following components:

  • Timely scheduling of presentation date on wiki: 1 point
  • Slide presentation: 1 point
  • Self-made screen-recorded video of a walk-through of the app: 2 points
  • Presenter's ability to answer questions about the app after the presentation (Q&A): 1 point

Suggestions For Things to Address in the Presentation

  • What does the app do?
  • Why did you choose it?
  • Who made the app?
  • Why was it made? What is its purpose?
  • What platforms does it run on? (e.g., Android, Iphone)
  • What viewers does it support? (e.g., Google Cardboard, Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR)
  • What do you like about the app?
  • What don't you like about the app?
  • What could the programmer(s) have done better?

Helpful Tips
